Linda-

What has the world come to when the Russian army is more moral than

ours?

For your information, I'm including below a snippet of an e-mail

message I received today from a friend in St. Petersburg.

Political situation in the country is very bad. The war in

Chechnya makes everything, including economical positions

         worse. Everything is still incredible.

What sort of medal have you prepared and how do you plan to deliver it

after Warren Christopher refuses? Why don't you Fed-ex it to Babichev?

How much have you spent? I'd like to chip in. This is a great idea.

Brad

U.S. MILITIA TO AWARD MEDAL TO RUSSIAN COMMANDER-12/25/1994-

Indianapolis, Indiana (AEN) The Adjutant General of the Unorganized Militia

of the united States today announced that the Militia would make its first

award of a Medal of Valor in this century to Russian Commander, Major General

Ivan Babichev.

When General Babichev was ordered by Soviet President Yeltsin to Invade the

independent Republic of Chechny with Russian military earlier in December, he

refused to obey the order and was interviewed on international television,

saying, "They (russian leaders) can condemn us, but we are not going to

shoot. We're not going to use tanks against the people. We are not going

any farther. It is not our fault that we are here. We did not want this.

this contradicted the Constitution. It is forbidden to use the Army against

peaceful civilians. It is forbidden to shoot at the people."

Linda Thompson, Adjutant General of the Unorganized Militia of the united

States, said, "The Militia of the united States is awarding teh Medal of

Valor, the first such award in this century, to General Babichev, because

what he did was morally right and required great courage. He obeyed the

supreme law, the Constitution, and to do so, he had to defy his superiors and

Boris Yeltsin at great personal risk to himself. We will ask the Secretary

of State of the United States to make arrangements to present this award to

General Babichev. There is no other honorable course."

Thompson explained that "The militia in the United States fought for this

country's freedom from tyranny in 1776. As a result, our forefathers

insured, in our Constitution, that if any tyrant ever attempted to use

military force against the citizens, that the citizens would always be armed

and that the militia would always be available to fight this unlawful use of

military force. That is what the militia and the people of the independent

republic of Checkny are doing no--fighting for their freedom from tyranny."

"For the United States to endorse the use of tanks and military against the

citizens of a free republic, is to endorse tyranny and to mock freedom."

"We have only to look to history to know that during World War II, if more

soldiers had been as brave as General Babichev, perhaps Hitler would never

have succeeded in his murderous crusades," Thompson said.

"The President of the United States openly supported Boris Yeltsin as he

abrogated the Constitution of the Soviet Union and ordered tanks and military

to attack the parliament. Whenever a leader disregards the supreme law of a

country, he is nothing more than a dictator, a tyrant, using military force

to achieve his ends. He is no different than Napolean, Hitler, or Attila the

Hun. Neither the President of the United States nor the President of the

Soviet Union has any regard for the sacred laws and foundations of their

countries, nor the independence of the people of their countries, and we

condemn them as the tyrants that they are," Thompson continued in her

prepared statement.

"General Babichev is an example of honor and courage to the world. We can

only hope that the military leaders of this country and of other nations,

will recognize their duties to the people of their countries, and their

solemn oaths to uphold their constitutions, so well as General Babichev."
