The previous one disappeared [along with the FidoNet History project] when Marge Robbins retired from FidoNet without notice. Is there a page for Region 15? And what about John Mudge [REC17]? Did he get kidnapped? I understand the concept of burnout but not the concept of disappearing without at least a minimal "So long" or "Get bent" on the way out so folks can adjust links or displays. That's just rude and there is never any excuse for being rude according to my mother. Must be upbringing or a lack thereof? And speaking of upbringing, WHY do we still not have an International Coordinator in FidoNet? If we had 7 Zones instead of 6 [and we sure need another Zone], there couldn't be any deadlocks over politics or personalities. Unfortunately, FidoNet used to be a cooperative and friendly network and the founders didn't visualize this petty deadlock we've been engaged in for YEARS! And speaking of coming back from the dead ... the FTSC seems to have reconstructed and reorganized as indicated in the article below to that effect. Now, if they just get a blessing from Tom Jennings [he's at: tomj@wps.com, guys] for this effort, I can change the FTSC listing from the current mirror of the old Nugent site to the new FTSC site. That would represent a potential bright spot in an otherwise dreary same old. For those of you who read Russian, there is a Russian version of FidoNews available, now. Check out the Letters to the Editor. It's not a translation of this thing. It is their own newsletter. More power to them! Also note a new addition to the Future History list. We're just a year away from the International BBS Week celebration. Watch here for updates and information. If they get a website going, I'll list it in the FidoNet by Internet section. The Echomail weenies are still fighting and arguing about elections and distributions and who's censoring who. Some things never change. On 15 June 1997 was founded "Planet Fidonet" electronic newspaper, that issues three or four times a week. Only in Russian now, sorry. The topics of discussion have been about the desirability, the IP-technology itself, the many possible ways of implementation, etc... All this talk is going on in an international conference entitled IP_CONNECT. This conference reaches already a multitude of regions in zone-2 and is now also available via 1:270/101 AKA PAOnline AKA George Peace. If you want to be involved in the discussion and/or the implementation please try to link in. Once again, the name is IP_CONNECT! ----------------------------------------------------------------- ====================== ELECTION RESULTS FTSC STANDING MEMBERS ====================== 08 September 1997 by Adrian Walker, 1:153/752 Interim FTSC Web Site: http://www.portal.ca/~awalker/ftsc.htm VOTER SUMMARY ============= Eligible Voters: 114 (76 RCs and 38 RECs) Votes Cast: 36 (25 RCs and 11 RECs) + 1 REC written abstention Percentage voted: 32% (33% RCs and 29% RECs) APPOINTMENT RULES ================= From "Voting Procedure", published in Fidonews, 11 August 1997: "A majority of "Yes" over "No" for a candidate is required for that person to be appointed as a Standing Member. Note that the ITU-T has divided the world into 9 "Zones", and generally countries get assigned a number starting with their zone number. There have been exceptions where a Zone was out of numbers. These are now limited to Aruba, Greenland and the Faroe Islands. Included are some cases where a "country" shares a country code with others (notably in ITU zones 1 & 7) or uses a subset of another country's code (for example, Liechtenstein) Note that in some cases neighboring countries do *not* use these codes to call the country. For example, San Marino is treated as part of Italy by the Italian phone system, but actually has its own country code and that code *is* used when dialing outside Italy. Also, some codes have been assigned, but are not being used yet. I've tried to note these where I have info. Finally, several country codes are being returned to "reserved" status, either because the country has merged with another (like Zanzibar) or because they have asked to be included in another country's phone system (Guam, and the CNMI). The codes immediately before the name are the ISO 3166 two letter code for the country or territory. 0 -- Reserved 1 CA Canada 1 US United States of America 1-242 BS Bahamas, Commonwealth of the 1-246
