CL4: By Darkus/Mangoo

CL0:As we all know, nowadays the idea of
opening up a scene dedicated
radiostation certainly isn`t a new
one. However the EC team has
uncovered a station with a difference,
so one decided to travel across the
country and behind the scenes to
report back to you all what I
discover.

CL1:You might have guessed from the
article title that the station is
called C.G.M. UKScene Radio Station,
32 year old Englishman Mark Dunn alias
Solorize is the man responsible for
the broadcasting. He began his scene
career in 1996 although he explains "I
had an interest in the scene from
about 1993, downloading demos and so
on". The broadcast first came on air
just over 1 year ago and Solorize
explained to me if it wasn`t for his
girlfriend nagging him about his noisy
music making sessions he would never
have opened the station. Just as we
had a private minute, Solorize
whispers in my ear "I kept waking the
kid up which then annoyed my
girlfriend". Which, you can imagine
lead to his eventual decision to
search for different scene projects.

CL0:As the radio`s name suggests "UKScene
Radio" the playlist consists of only
music produced by UK musicians. It`s
the first project of it`s kind and
possibly an innovation that could be
mirrored over other countries.
Wanting to know how Solorizes
formulated the idea he confessed to
being a fan of UK scene musicians work
and went as far as claiming "while I
have a large collection, I thought
other people would like to listen to
all the music I had downloaded"
furthermore he explains "without
having to go and spend the time
themselves downloading them all".
Cleverly, Solorize later admitted
another major reason for featuring the
UK alone was to avoid being in direct
competition with Nectarine. "They do
a fine job and we don`t need another
station featuring artists from around
the world".

CL1:Looking again at the name of the radio
station, not only is it quite a
mouthful but also slightly confusing.
Without having to ask Solorize
thankfully explained "C.G.M = Computer
Generated Music, just for those who
want to know".

CL0:As Solorize earlier explained, the
station has been on air for more or
less a full year now. During the
course of such a time period one would
be expected to have the information
available to decide whether or not the
station has been a success. Solorize
confidently allowed me access to the
listeners log and it was clear to see
he has regular listeners, moreover
individuals who tend to keep
submitting new songs. Although it
would appear the station has various
expansion problems. As Solorize
informs me "I have negative feedback
from people wanting a higher stream
bitrate". Surely he would simply
increase it? "My ISP has a crappy
upload speed limit which restricts
either the amount of concurrent
listeners or broadcast quality".
Admittedly, he has a problem which
will effect the eventual growth. The
only solution Solorize has came up
with involves seeking help from you.
"I`m looking for people who could help
me relay the station". Hopefully one
of you reading this could help? Find
his contact details at the end of the
article.

CL1:Outside help permitting, Solorize has
already formulated new plans to
improve the content of the broadcast.
He explains "once a week i`d like to
do a dedicated music set for a
featured artist along with audio
interviews". The chance of hearing
the likes of Spaceman, Dreamfish or
Rob Hubbard doing an interview on air
is surely a winner. Over recent
months Solorize released a chip pack
for the PC scene featuring a
collection of songs from the
radiostation, namely "Distant
Memories". Check it out and listen to
what you can expect to hear from his
station.

Just before I leave you with all the relevant contact and url information, I`d
just like to wish Solorize the best of luck with his project and my thanks for
being such a nice host.
