"Not What I Was Hoping For"

To you I came with hopes so high,
Preconceptions that led me astray.
All I thought before I've now thrown aside,
You've let me down for too many days.

I hoped for a world which I've never known,
Where the disco lights never dim.
But my smile disappears before it can form,
And the fun has yet to begin.

For just one night you'll be bright as the sun,
But the illumination won't last.
Just when I really am starting to swing,
The good time already has past.

I've been told to wait and give it some time,
Things will soon turn around.
But friends who are elsewhere are up in the sky,
While my feet are still stuck on the ground.
