"When Atlas Falls"

Dark eyes gleaming in grim resolve,
asking no mercy of the unyielding pain.
Teeth clenched tight, rigid jaw strong
      shoulders unshaking under eternal strain.

Atlas kneels silently in a field of despair,
golden skin gleaming with eons of sweat.
Noblest Titan holds the weight of the world,
upon able shoulders the torture is set.

He holds the endless agony as lives pass by,
his sorrowful eyes mist as sweaty drops burn.
His mouth cuts a line 'cross a tormented face
as he loses the peace for which he does yearn.

His knees tautly tremble as he bows to the strain
and falls 'neath the earth and the stars and the sky.
Fidelity broken and virtue stained,
he rises from the dust with a prodigious sigh.

The screams from the rubble fly to his ears
from the ruined earth green and the shattered sky blue.
At this point he turns and addresses the earth
"there is naught left to me but to say 'fuck you.'"
